Ingredients

  • 1 store-bought pizza dough fresh or thawed if frozen
  • 1/2 cup pizza sauce
  • 1 1/2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 cup sliced pepperoni
  • 2 tablespoons avocado oil
  • Grated Parmesan cheese optional, for serving

Instructions

  • Preheat the grill to medium-high heat.
  • Brush the inside of a 12-inch cast iron skillet with 1 tablespoon of avocado oil.
  • On a lightly floured surface, roll out the pizza dough to fit the size of the skillet.
  • Carefully transfer the rolled-out dough to the prepared skillet, pressing it into the bottom and up the sides of the skillet.
  • Spread the pizza sauce evenly over the dough, leaving a small border around the edges.
  • Sprinkle 1 cup of the shredded mozzarella cheese over the sauce.
  • Evenly distribute the sliced pepperoni over the cheese.
  • Drizzle the remaining 1 tablespoon of avocado oil over the toppings.
  • Carefully place the skillet on the grill and close the lid.
  • Grill for about 12-15 minutes, or until the crust is golden and the cheese is melted and bubbly. Rotate the skillet occasionally for even cooking.
  • Once the pizza is cooked, carefully remove the skillet from the grill using oven mitts or heat-resistant gloves.
  • Allow the pizza to cool for a few minutes before garnishing with fresh basil leaves.
  • Optionally, serve with grated Parmesan cheese sprinkled on top.

Notes

Recipe Tips
  • Crispy Crust - It’s the secret to that crispy, restaurant-style crust is to make sure the oven is preheated. For a crispier crust, preheat the cast iron skillet on the grill for a few minutes before adding the pizza dough.
  • Add Oil to Pan - Helps prevent sticking and adds flavor to the pizza crust.
  • Don’t overload Toppings - Too many can make the crust soggy.
  • Add Cheese First - Adding the cheese then the toppings keeps everything melty and balanced.
  • Let Pizza Rest - A few minutes of cooling makes it easier to slice and serve.
Topping Ideas
We love to make a pizza bar and everyone can add their favorite toppings. These are some of our favorites but you can easily add what your prefer.
  • Margherita - Fresh mozzarella, basil, and tomato slices. You can even make this on a gluten free pizza crust.
  • BBQ Chicken - BBQ sauce, shredded chicken, red onion, and cheddar.
  • Veggie Supreme - Bell peppers, onions, olives, and mushrooms.
  • Meat Lover’s - Pepperoni, sausage, bacon, and ham.
  • Breakfast Pizza - Scrambled eggs, bacon, and cheddar cheese.
