Ingredients

  • 1 pound Russet Potatoes approximately 2-3 potatoes
  • 1/4 cup Vegetable Oil
  • 1/2 tsp Kosher Salt or more to taste

Instructions

  • Preheat your grill on medium high heat to approximately 450 degrees F.
  • Peel 1 pound Russet potatoes and cut them into approximately 1/4-inch strips.
  • Wash the fries and then soak them for approximately 10-20 minutes. Then drain the potatoes and place them on paper towels and pat them dry.
  • Add the potatoes and 1/4 cup vegetable oil to a large mixing bowl. Toss until the potatoes are evenly coated.
  • Then place a cast iron skillet on the grill and heat. Add the potatoes and the remaining oil from the bowl to the cast iron.
  • Cook the potatoes in the cast iron skillet until for 20-25 minutes until the fries are well browned and cooked through. Flip the potatoes as little as possible (I flipped ours every 4-6 minutes) and make sure to scrape the bottom of the pan every time you flip to prevent them from burning.
  • Remove the fries from the skillet and place them on a plate lined with paper towels. Season with 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt, or more to taste. Serve warm.

Notes

Any type of potatoes will work but I prefer Russet for this recipe.
Move the pan around every time you flip the potatoes so that you don't run into any hot spots on the grill.
Try to touch the potatoes as little as possible. If you flip them too much, the fries will likely just break with flipping them.
Store the leftover potatoes in an air tight container for up to 5 days. I generally reheat in the microwave but the fries will be softer after they stored.
