Kansas City BBQ Sauce

Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons Butter
  • 1 medium yellow onion finely chopped approximately 1 cup
  • 1 tablespoon Minced Garlic
  • 2 cups Ketchup
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 1 tablespoon smoked paprika
  • 1 tablespoon chili powder
  • 1 tablespoon kosher salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • ½ teaspoon Ground mustard
  • ½ cup apple cider vinegar
  • ½ cup brown sugar
  • cup molasses

Instructions

  • Melt the butter in a medium saucepan over medium high heat.  Add in the diced onions and cook for 5-7 minutes until softened.
  • Add in the minced garlic and cook for 1 minute until aromatic.
  • Stir in all the remaining ingredients.
  • Heat over medium heat and bring to a low boil.
  • Reduce the heat to low and simmer until thickened (approximately 15-20 minutes), stirring often.
  • Blend with an immersion blender or carefully transfer to an upright blender and blend until smooth.
  • Remove from heat, allow to cool and then the sauce is ready to serve and enjoy!

Notes

Refrigerate in an airtight glass container and the BBQ sauce should keep for up to 2 weeks.
