Ingredients

For the Patties:

  • 2 pounds ground hamburger beef 85% lean
  • 2 Tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 1 teaspoon Black Pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon Garlic Powder

For the Caramelized Onions:

  • 1 White Onion sliced thinly
  • 1 Tablespoon Butter
  • 2 Tablespoons Beer

For the Burgers:

  • 4 Slices Swiss Cheese
  • 4 Pretzel Buns
  • 2 Tablespoons Butter
  • 4 Lettuce Leaves
  • 1 Tomato sliced
  • Condiment of your Choice

Instructions

For the Onions:

  • Melt the butter in a small skillet over medium heat.
  • Add the onions.
  • Cover and cook for 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the onions are soft.
  • Then uncover and cook for an additional 5 minutes until the excess liquid cooks off.  Deglaze the pan with the beer.

For the Burgers:

  • Preheat a grill over medium heat (approximately 350-400 degrees F).
  • Mix together the patty ingredients in a medium size mixing bowl.
  • Then form the beef into 4 patties that are approximately ½ pound each.
  • Place on the grill over direct heat and cook for 5-6 minutes per side until the patties reach an internal temperature of 165 degrees F.
  • Place a slice of cheese on the patties for the last minute of the cooking time to melt the cheese.
  • Butter the pretzel buns and place them on the grill for approximately 1 minute to toast the buns.
  • Remove the buns.  Spread with a condiment of your choice and top with the lettuce and sliced tomatoes.
  • Top with beef patties and caramelized onions.
  • Place the top bun on top and then the burgers are ready to serve and enjoy!

Notes

Refrigerate the leftover patties and onions in an airtight container for up to 5-7 days.
