- Optional: 1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes

In a bowl, whisk together ½ cup soy sauce, ¼ cup dark brown sugar, ¼ cup vegetable oil, 2 tablespoons minced garlic, 1 tablespoon ground ginger, 2 tablespoons rice vinegar, and 1 tablespoon sesame oil. Add ¼ teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes if using.
Place 1 ½ to 2 pounds chicken breast, thighs, or drumsticks in a Ziploc bag or shallow dish.
Pour the marinade over the chicken, ensuring all pieces are well coated. 4. Seal the bag or cover the dish and refrigerate for at least 1 hour, or up to 8 hours for more flavor.
When ready to cook, remove the chicken from the marinade and discard the remaining liquid. Cook the chicken as desired.
It's recommended to discard the used marinade or boil it for several minutes if you plan to use it as a sauce to eliminate any potential bacteria from the raw chicken.
