Ingredients

For the Chili:

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 small onion finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 can 15 ounces tomato sauce
  • 1 can 15 ounces kidney beans, drained and rinsed
  • 2 tablespoons chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon cumin
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper

For the Burger:

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 4 hamburger buns
  • Optional: 1/4 teaspoon smoked paprika or cayenne pepper for heat

Instructions

For the Chili:

  • In a large pot, brown the ground beef over medium heat. Drain any excess fat.
  • Add the finely chopped onion and minced garlic to the pot, sautéing until translucent.
  • Stir in the tomato sauce, kidney beans, chili powder, and cumin.
  • Bring the mixture to a simmer and cook for about 20-30 minutes, stirring occasionally. Season with salt and pepper to taste.

For the Burger Patties:

  • In a mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, salt, black pepper, and garlic powder. Optionally, add smoked paprika or cayenne pepper for additional flavor (heat).
  • Mix the ingredients well and form into burger patties.
  • Grill or cook the patties in a skillet until they reach your desired level of doneness.
  • If using cheese, add a slice to each patty about one minute before they are done cooking.
  • Toast the hamburger buns on the grill for 1-2 minutes, if desired.

To Assemble:

  • Place the cooked hamburger patties on the buns.
  • Spoon a generous amount of chili over each patty.
  • Add any additional optional toppings you like.
  • Place the top bun on and serve immediately.

Notes

Chili Consistency: If you prefer a thicker chili, you can simmer it for a longer period to reduce the liquid. For a thinner chili, you can add a bit more broth or tomato sauce.
