Ingredients

  • 4 sirloin steaks about 6-8 ounces each
  • 1/2 cup soy sauce
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 2 tablespoons Mirin Cooking Rice Wine
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 2 garlic cloves minced
  • 1 teaspoon fresh ginger grated
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • 1 teaspoon rice vinegar
  • Sesame seeds for garnish
  • Green onions sliced (for garnish)

Instructions

  • In a bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, water, mirin, brown sugar, minced garlic, grated ginger, sesame oil, honey, and rice vinegar to create the teriyaki marinade.
  • Place the sirloin steaks in a large Ziplock bag and pour in the teriyaki marinade. Make sure the steaks are well coated with the marinade.
  • Seal the bag and place it in the refrigerator to marinate for at least 1 hour, or up to 8 hours for deeper flavor penetration.
  • Preheat the grill to high-heat. While the grill is heating, remove the steaks from the refrigerator and let them come to room temperature.
  • Remove the steaks from the marinade, letting the excess drip off. Discard the remaining marinade.
  • Place the steaks on the hot grill and cook for 4-5 minutes on each side for medium-rare, or until they reach your desired level of doneness.
  • Transfer the grilled steaks to a cutting board and let them rest for 5 minutes to allow the juices to redistribute.
  • Slice the steaks against the grain and transfer to a serving platter.
  • Garnish with a sprinkle of sesame seeds and sliced green onions. Serve and enjoy!

Notes

Marinate the steaks for at least 1 hour to allow the flavors to infuse. For best results, an extended marinating time of up to 8 hours is recommended, but avoid marinating for too long as the acidity and salt can start to change the texture of the meat.
