Instructions

For the Steaks:

  • Mix together the ground beef, egg, breadcrumbs, onion powder, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, salt and pepper gently with your hands. Make sure to not squeeze the beef as you mix or you will have tough patties. Form the mixture into 6 patties.
  • Place the flour in a shallow bowl and dip the patties very lightly in the flour.
  • Preheat a large cast iron skillet over medium high heat. Add the oil until heated through.
  • Place the patties in the skillet and brown both sides of the patties (4-5 minutes per side) until browned.
  • Remove the patties from the pan and gently cover with foil to keep them warm.

For the Gravy:

  • Melt the butter in the cast iron skillet over medium high heat. Scrap off any brown bits from the bottom of the skillet.
  • Add the sliced onions and cook until translucent and golden brown (5-6 minutes).  Add the flour to the pan. Coat the onions with the flour and cook for 1-2 minutes.
  • Whisk in the beef broth, garlic powder, Worcestershire sauce, salt and pepper. Make sure to scrape down the sides of the pans as well.
  • Heat over medium high heat and bring the mixture to a boil.
  • Boil the gravy until thickened.  Add more broth if needed to think out the gravy slightly.
  • Reduce the heat, add the patties back to the skillet. Spoon the gravy and onions on top. Serve warm and enjoy!
