Why You’ll Love Smoked Buffalo Chicken Dip

We love smoking our buffalo chicken dip in a cast-iron skillet because the dip cooks low which helps to melt the cheeses slowly while infusing the entire skillet with subtle smoke that balances the Buffalo sauce’s tang.

My entire family loves this bubbling, creamy, and golden brown dip that stays warm for hours. It is perfect for tailgates, backyard parties, or any time wings just aren’t enough.

Recipe Tips

  • Type of Pan – We love to make this hot dip in a cast iron skillet as it can easily be placed in the smoker. You can also cook the dip in an aluminum pan.
  • Smoking Time – Cooking time will vary depending on your smoker. This creamy dip is ready in about 20 minutes.
  • Cooking Methods – You can also make Crock Pot Buffalo Chicken Dip or in the oven for about 15 minutes. We have even placed it on the grill grates to cook on the charcoal grill for a delicious smoky dip.
  • Cream Cheese – To easily combine cream cheese with the other ingredients, make sure to softened cream cheese at room temperature.
  • Wood Pellets – We like to make this dip with mild wood chips such as apple, cherry, maple or oak.

Flavor Variations

  • Sweet Heat – For a hint of sweetness add in 2 tbsp of hot sauce with 1 minced chipotle pepper into the dip mixture.
  • Chopped Bacon – Stir in ½ cup of chopped bacon for layers of flavor and crunchy texture.
  • Spicy Kick – If you prefer a little more spicy, add in ½ cup of diced jalapenos. We love to serve slice jalapenos on top for added flavor.
  • Cheese – Feel free to add or change the cheese by adding in pepper jack or mozzarella cheese.
