These Short Ribs are always on the menu because of how easy they grill and the amazing flavor. They grill extra tender and my entire family loves this easy grilled beef recipe.

We like to cook the ribs medium-rare but they flavorful anyway you cook them. Try this other delicious rib recipe, 3-2-1 Smoked Ribs.

Why We Love These Short Ribs

Ribs are one my boys favorite grilling recipes because the flavor of the meat and the delicious texture. With my busy schedule I like to prepare meals that my family loves and that are quick to make.

These ribs are always on the menu because I can easily add a few side dish recipes and dinner is done.

Ingredients

Short Ribs, salt, pepper, garlic powder, oil, butter
  • Short Ribs – We usually get these ribs from our local butcher. But you can also use baby back ribs.
  • Garlic Powder – You can also use Mince Garlic
  • Oil (divided) – You can use any oil with a high smoke point for this recipe. Vegetable, Canola, Avocado or Coconut oil will all work well in this recipe.
  • Butter – We used unsalted butter

How to Make Grilled Short Ribs

  • Step 1 – Preheat the grill over medium high heat (approximately 400 degrees Fahrenheit)

Step 2 – Mix together the seasonings.

Step 3 – Rub 1 tablespoon of oil onto both sides of the short ribs and then rub this mixture onto both sides of the short ribs.

Step 4 – Clean the grill grates and rub the grates with the remaining oil to keep the short ribs from sticking to the grill. 

Grilling Short Ribs

Step 5 – Place the short ribs directly on the grill grates. Flip them every 2 minutes until they reach an internal temperature of 130 degrees F (for medium rare).

Step 6 – Remove them from the grill and place on a baking sheet.

Step 7 – Immediately top each one with butter, tent them with aluminum foil and let them rest for 10-15 minutes before serving.  

  • Step 8 – Slice the short ribs against the grain and then they are ready to serve and enjoy! 

Expert Tips

  • Prepare Grill – Before placing the short ribs on the gas grill or charcoal grill, make sure to preheat the grill. We also recommend to clean the grill and oil the grill grates.
  • Resting Short Ribs – Allow the ribs to rest after taking them off the grill. This will allow the ribs to lock in the juices for the best flavor.

How Long To Cook Ribs 

The recipe above is to cook the short ribs to medium rare.  If you prefer your beef cooked differently, continue to cook it in 2 minute increments until it reaches the internal temperature based on the preference you prefer. 

  • Rare – 120F, cool to warm red center
  • Medium Rare – 130F, Warm red center
  • Medium – 140F, Hot pink center
  • Medium Well – 150F, Mostly brown center
  • Well Done – 160F, full brown in color
