What is Alabama White BBQ Sauce?
This Alabama White Barbecue Sauce was created by Big Bob Gibson’s Bar-B-Q in Northern Alabama. This popular white sauce swaps the usual tomato base for mayonnaise, sharpened with vinegar-based, horseradish, and black pepper.
It’s traditionally smothered over smoked chicken right off the smoker so the thin, zesty glaze soaks into the bark. But the Alabama white sauce recipe doubles as a amazing dip for fries, pulled pork, seafood, and veggies. We have even used it as a salad dressing on our salads.
Ingredients

- Mayonnaise – Use quality, mayo for the amazing creamy mayonnaise base
- Apple Cider Vinegar – Helps to balance out the flavors
- Lemon – We like using fresh lemon juice
- Worcestershire Sauce – Add delicious umami flavor to the sauce
- Brown Sugar – Adds a hint of sweetness
- Horseradish – Adds zinc to the sauce
- Simple Spices – Kosher Salt, garlic powder, onion powder, and black pepper
- Hot Sauce – Adds mild heat to the sauce
