What is Alabama White BBQ Sauce?

This Alabama White Barbecue Sauce was created by Big Bob Gibson’s Bar-B-Q in Northern Alabama. This popular white sauce swaps the usual tomato base for mayonnaise, sharpened with vinegar-based, horseradish, and black pepper.

It’s traditionally smothered over smoked chicken right off the smoker so the thin, zesty glaze soaks into the bark. But the Alabama white sauce recipe doubles as a amazing dip for fries, pulled pork, seafood, and veggies. We have even used it as a salad dressing on our salads.

Ingredients

Ingredients - Mayonnaise, apple cider vinegar, lemon, worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, horseradish, salt, garlic powder, onion powder, pepper, hot sauce
  • Mayonnaise – Use quality, mayo for the amazing creamy mayonnaise base
  • Apple Cider Vinegar – Helps to balance out the flavors
  • Lemon – We like using fresh lemon juice
  • Worcestershire Sauce – Add delicious umami flavor to the sauce
  • Brown Sugar – Adds a hint of sweetness
  • Horseradish – Adds zinc to the sauce
  • Simple Spices – Kosher Salt, garlic powder, onion powder, and black pepper
  • Hot Sauce – Adds mild heat to the sauce
