This Chorizo Burger is a delicious twist on your classic beef recipe. It is loaded with Mexican inspired flavors that makes for a tasty burger recipe.

What is a Chorizo Burger?

Ground Beef and Chorizo Burger is combined with seasoning and made into hamburger patties. The Mexican chorizo burger is grilled and then placed on a hamburger bun. This delicious chorizo burger topped with a mayonnaise based sauce.

Add a slice of avocados and slice pepper jack cheese with lettuce and tomatoes for a delicious burger.

Ingredients

Ingredients needed for burger - Lean Ground Beef, Ground Fresh Chorizo, paprika, salt, pepper, oil, pepper jack cheese, avocados, lettuce, red onion, tomatoes, hamburger buns, cilantro, mayonnaise, garlic, honey, jalapeno, limes
  • Lean Ground Beef – You can use Ground Turkey
  • Pepper Jack Cheese – Use Cheese of your Choice
  • Hamburger Buns – Use any type of buns

Substitutions and Additions

  • Oil the Grates – Use any oil with a high smoke point. Vegetable oil, canola oil, coconut oil or avocado oil will all work great in this recipe.
  • Hot Sauce – Top the burger with hot sauce for an extra flavor and heat to your burger.
  • Caramelized Onions – Caramelized onions to top your burger for added flavor.

How to Make a Chorizo Burger

Combine ground beef, ground chorizo, paprika, salt, pepper in a bowl with a wooden spoon

Step 1 – Mix the ground beef, ground chorizo, paprika, salt and pepper in a large bowl.  Mix until just combined.

Step 2 – Add the cilantro lime mayonnaise ingredients to a food processor and blend well until thoroughly combined. Refrigerate until ready to use.

Step 3 – Divide the beef mixture into 6 even balls. Then form the balls into patties that are approximately 4 inches wide and 1 inch thick.  Place the patties in the refrigerator (covered in plastic wrap) while you preheat the grill.

Step 4 – Preheat the Grill over medium high heat (approximately 450-500 degrees F). Rub oil on the grill grates to prevent the patties from sticking to the grill. lace the patties on the grill over direct heat.  Cook for 4-8 minutes flipping the patties halfway through the cook time.

  • Step 5 – Use an instant-read meat thermometer to make sure that the burgers are cooked to your preference. Place a piece of cheese on each burger patty for approximately 1 minutes so that it can melt. 
  • Step 6 – Place the buns on the grill and cook for 1 minute until they are browned slightly.  Watch them closely so that they do not burn.
  • Step 7 – Add the cilantro lime mayonnaise, a lettuce leaf and red onions to the bottom bun of each bun.
  • Step 8 – Remove the beef from the grill. Then add them to each  of the hamburger buns on top of the lettuce.
  • Step 9 – Then top each patty with the tomatoes and avocado slices.  Serve warm and enjoy! 

Recipe Tips

  • Oil the Grates – Use any oil with a high smoke point. Vegetable oil, canola oil, coconut oil or avocado oil will all work great in this recipe.
  • Heat Grill – Heat the grilled to medium heat to cook the hamburger patties.
  • Cook in Skillet – You can make Chorizo burgers indoors. Make on a skillet over medium minutes and cook for about 3 minutes per side. Add olive oil to your skillet and heat over medium heat.

How to Know when a Chorizo Burger is done

Here are the internal temperatures needed based on how you like your burgers prepared.  

  • Rare Burgers – 125 degrees F 
  • Medium Rare Burgers – 135 degrees F 
  • Medium Burgers – 145 degrees F 
  • Well-Done Burgers – 160 degrees F .
