Should Asparagus be Soaked before Grilling?

There is no need to soak asparagus before grilling. We just prepare our asparagus by trimming the asparagus and seasoning then place on the grill.

If you need tips on how to trim asparagus here are some easy tips:

  • Trim the Woody Ends – Then ends of the asparagus are tough to eat, so they need to be trimmed off.
  • Snap the Ends – To figure out where to cut, gently bend the asparagus. Where the asparagus bends is the start of the tender part.
  • Line the Asparagus – Place the asparagus on a cutting board and cut the ends off. We use a sharp knife to trim off the woody ends.
Ingredients needed - asparagus spears, olive oil, salt and pepper, bacon

  • Thinly Slice Bacon, cut in half

How Long to Grill Asparagus:

Grilling these Bacon Wrapped Asparagus do not take long to cook. Make sure to watch the bundles closely as they cook to make sure that there is not excess smoke from the fat on the bacon.

It takes about 5 to 8 minutes per side to grill. I like to flip the asparagus making sure all the sides of the bacon is crisp.

Seasoning Ideas:

We used simple seasoning when making this side dish. The bacon grilled with the bundles gives the asparagus so much flavor.

  • Garlic Salt or Garlic Powder
  • Italian Seasoning
  • Fresh Herbs
  • Squeeze Fresh Lemon
  • Top with fresh parmesan cheese or mozzarella cheese
  • BBQ Sauce
  • Balsamic Glaze
