Why Make Turkey Burgers
We love making smash burgers and so I was looking for a healthier option to make on the griddle. If you have made turkey burgers in the past, they may have turned out dry and not flavorful.
But with this recipe, you will be surprised how delicious it turns out with simple seasoning. This turkey burger recipe is juicy and it is perfect for those they may not eat ground beef.

- Ground Turkey (80-85% lean)
- Worcestershire sauce
- Salt
- Pepper
- Garlic Powder
- Oil
- American Cheese
- Lettuce Leaves
- Red Onion sliced
- Tomatoes sliced
- Hamburger Buns
- Butter (melted)

Variations
- Change Oil – Use any oil with a high smoke point. Vegetable oil, canola oil, coconut oil or avocado oil will all work great in this recipe.
- Seasoning – Feel free to change the seasoning to what you prefer. Add in onion powder or bread crumbs to give the patties so much flavor.
- Cheese – We added to cheese the turkey patty while cooking on the griddle. Feel free to serve without it or with different types of cheese.
How to Make Turkey Burgers on a Blackstone Griddle

Step 1 – Combine Ingredients – In a large mixing bowl, stir together the ground turkey and Worcestershire sauce. Add in salt, pepper and garlic powder until well combined. Use your hands to thoroughly mix the ingredients.

Step 2 – Divide Turkey Meat – Divide the ground turkey mixture into 6 even balls (approximately ⅓ lb each). Then form the balls into patties.
- Step 3 – Chill Patties – Place the patties in the refrigerator (covered in plastic wrap) while you preheat the grill.
- Step 4 – Heat Griddle – Preheat the griddle over medium high heat (approximately 400 degrees F).
- Step 5 – Prepare Buns – Butter the buns and place them on the griddle for 2 minutes to toast them. Then set them aside while you prepare the patties.
- Step 6 – Spread Oil – Spread the oil onto the grill and spread it around with a spatula.
- Step 7 – Place Turkey Patties – Then place the turkey patties onto the grill. Top each one with a piece on parchment paper. Then firmly press down to smash the turkey into a thin patty. Smash with either a burger press or a large spatula. Then discard the parchment paper.

- Step 8 – Cook Patties – Cook the patties for 2-3 minutes. Cook until the juices in the turkey start to raise to the top and the color starts to change. Then scrape under the patty to get under the caramelized parts and flip the patty.
- Step 9 – Flip Burgers – Once flipped, do not smash down the patties again. Cook for 1-2 more minutes until the patties reach an internal temperature of 165 degrees Fahrenheit.

- Step 10 – Top with Cheese – Place a piece of cheese on the patties to melt.

Step 11 – Add Lettuce – Add a lettuce leaf and onion slices to the bottom bun of each bun.

Step 12 – Remove Patties – Remove the patties from the grill and place on baking sheet. Then add them to each of the hamburger buns on top of the lettuce.
- Step 13 – Serve and Enjoy – Then top each patty with the tomato slices. Serve warm and enjoy.
Can I Make on the Stovetop?
The great thing about this turkey burger is you can make it indoors. We recommend using an indoor grill or a cast iron skillet. We like using a cast iron skillet as it is similar to how it cook on the Blackstone.
- Prepare the burger patties as the recipe indicates.
- Place in a preheated skillet over medium heat and cook. We recommend smashing the burger down with a spatula or burger press.
- Make sure burger is cooked thoroughly by checking internal temperature.
- Serve the turkey burger with your favorite side dish and toppings.

How Long to Cook a Turkey Burger
When cooking burgers on the griddle, they do not take long. Cooking time will vary depending on how thick your turkey burger is.
Place your turkey patty on the griddle and top with parchment paper. Smash the burger with a burger press and cook for about 2 minutes on each side.
We recommend using a meat thermometer to ensure that your burger is cooked through. The internal temperature should reach 165 degrees when the burger is cooked.
Recipe Tips
- Combine Ingredients – When combining ingredients we recommend using your clean hands. This helps to really combine the ingredients and form into a patty.
- Prepare Griddle – Before placing the patties on the griddle, make sure to preheat and oil it. This gives your patties the best texture and prevents it from sticking to the griddle.
- Divide Mixture – When preparing the turkey patties, make sure you divide the meat mixture evenly. This ensures that the burgers cook evenly and about the same time.
- Flipping Burgers – When you flip the burgers to cook on the other side, you do not need to smash them again. Your burger will cook and be the perfect thin patty.

How to Store Leftovers
Refrigerate any leftovers in an airtight container for up to 5 days. You can also place the cooked turkey burger in the freezer if you have a lot leftover. The freeze really well and make for a quick weeknight dinner.
