What is a Taco Burger?

If you love tacos, then you are going to love this Taco Burger Recipe. It has all the taco flavors of your classic taco recipe. But instead of serving in a taco shell serve between hamburger buns for the ultimate burger.

Ingredients needed - ground beef, taco seasoning, chunky salsa, oil, cheddar cheese, buns, lettuce, onion, tomato

How to Grill a Taco Burger on Blackstone Griddle 

  • Step 1 – Preheat the Blackstone Grill over medium high heat (approximately 400 degrees F).  Spread the oil out on the other side of the grill with a spatula.
  • Step 2 – Mix together the hamburger meat, taco seasoning and ½ cup chunky sauce.  Divide the ground beef into 6 even balls (approximately ⅓ lb each).

  • Step 3 – Place the ground beef on the Blackstone grill on the oil.

  • Step 4 – Press firmly on the ground beef balls into the Blackstone Grill.  Do not smash it all the way down but just press slightly to form a burger patty.

  • Step 5 – Cook the patties for 3 minutes -5 minutes.
  • Step 6 – Flip the burgers and cook until burgers are cooked through (3-4 more minutes).

  • Step 7 – Place the hamburger buns on the Blackstone Grill for 1-2 minutes to brown them slightly.

  • Step 8 – Add a slice of the cheddar cheese to each burger patty.
  • Step 9 – Remove the beef and add them to one of the bottom of the buns. 
  • Step 10 – Then top each patty with the shredded lettuce, sliced onions and diced tomatoes. 
  • Step 11 – Serve warm and enjoy! 

Taco Burger Tips

  • Cooking Hamburger Patties – Heat the griddle to medium heat so that taco patties cook through and evenly. Cook burgers until internal temperature reaches 160 degrees.
  • Smash Burger Recipe – This taco burger recipe is the ultimate smash burger recipe. Full of taco flavor combined with a ground beef.
  • Juicy Burger – Allow you burger to cook on the grill with very little flipping. I try to only flip the burger patties once to create a juicy flavorful burger.
  • Make Ahead of Time – You can easily make your hamburger balls ahead of time. Then place in the refrigerator until ready to grill.

Yes, you can make this taco burger recipe on the stove. We recommend using a large skillet or a cast iron skillet. Using the cast iron skillet is very similar to cooking on the griddle. Place taco burger in a skillet with oil and cook on medium heat for about 3 minutes per side. Add your favorite topping and serve.
