Chicken Parmesan Recipe is a delicious recipe that we make often in the oven but making it on the grill gives it amazing smoky flavor. I love this lighter version because there is no need to deep fry the chicken.

All you need is a few ingredients to create a delicious chicken recipe that everyone will love.

Ingredients

Ingredients - Chicken Breast, olive oil, red wine vinegar, lemon, Italian Seasoning, salt, pepper, Marinara Sauce, Mozzarella Cheese, Butter, Breadcrumbs
  • Boneless Skinless Chicken Breasts – Filet in about the same size pieces
  • Olive Oil – You can use any type of oil
  • Red Wine Vinegar – If you are out, check out these Red Wine Vinegar Substitutes.
  • Lemon – We have also used a Lime
  • Italian Seasoning – Learn How to Make Italian Seasoning
  • Marinara Sauce – You can also use tomato sauce or pizza sauce

How to Make Grilled Chicken Parmesan

Step 1 – Stir together the olive oil, red wine vinegar, lemon juice, Italian seasoning, salt and pepper together in a large bowl.

Step 2 – Add the chicken to the bowl and make sure that the chicken breasts are completely covered in the marinade. Allow the chicken to marinate for at least 30 minutes or overnight.

Step 3 – Place the chicken on the grill. Cook for 5-7 minutes per side until the chicken reaches an internal temperature of 165 degrees F.

Step 4 – Flip the chicken breasts again and top each chicken breast with marinara sauce (spoon it on top of the chicken) and the shredded mozzarella cheese.  Close the lid on the grill and allow the cheese to melt.

Step 5 – While the chicken is resting, prepare the breadcrumb topping. Melt the butter in a skillet over medium high heat.  Add in the breadcrumbs and sauté them in the butter until they are golden brown.

Step 6 – Serve the chicken breasts topped with the breadcrumb topping and enjoy!

Expert Tips

  • Prepare Grill – Preheat the grill to 350 degrees F. Gently brush the grates of the grill with the oil to prevent the chicken from sticking.
  • Rest Chicken – After topping the chicken with the sauce and cheese, remove the chicken from the grill and let the chicken rest for 5 minutes. 
  • Cooking Chicken – Cooking time will vary when grilling the chicken. Make sure to use a meat thermometer to ensure the chicken is fully cooked. The internal temperature should reach 165 degrees when chicken is finished cooking.
  • Chicken Pieces – Before placing the chicken on the grill, filet the chicken in about the same size pieces. This helps to cook the chicken evenly.

Serving Suggestions

Grilled chicken parm can easily be served over spaghetti noodles or any pasta that you prefer. Because we are grilling the chicken, we like to make a side of Grilled Broccoli in Foil or Grilled Asparagus for an easy side dish.

  • ¼ cup Olive Oil
  • ¼ cup Red Wine Vinegar
  • ½ Lemon juiced
  • 2 teaspoon Italian Seasoning

  • 4 teaspoon Pepper
  • 1 cup Marinara Sauce
  • 2 cups Shredded Mozzarella Cheese
  • For the Panko Topping:
  • 1/4 cup Salted Butter
  • 1/2 cup Panko Breadcrumbs
