How to Make Chipotle Steak
Step 1 – In a blender or food processor, combine the chipotle peppers, adobo sauce, garlic, oil, lime juice, cumin, oregano, pepper, and salt. Blend until smooth to create the marinade.
Step 2 – Place the steak in a large zip-top bag or resealable plastic bag and pour in the marinade. Seal the bag and turn to coat evenly. Refrigerate for at least 4 hours or up to 12 hours.
Step 3 – Grill steak for 5-6 minutes per side for medium-rare, or until desired doneness.
Step 4 – Let rest for 10 minutes, then slice and chop against the grain into small bite size pieces. Serve over rice, tortillas or on a salad. Enjoy!

- Marinating Steak – Marinating for the full 12 hours intensifies the chipotle flavor, but 4 hours will still provide a good amount of flavor. When it is time remove steak from marinade, discarding excess marinade.
- Type of Oregano – Chipotle uses Mexican Oregano but Italian Oregano tastes great as well and is usually more readily available but either will work in this recipe.
- Preheat Grill – Make sure your grill is fully preheated to achieve a really good sear.
- Room Temperature Steak – Remove the steak from refrigerator 30 minutes before cooking to allow it to come to room temperature.
- Cutting Steak into Bite-Sized Pieces – After you have allowed the steak to rest, place on a cutting board and cut the steak with a sharp knife. The a tender cut, make sure to cut against the grain.
- Cooking in Skillet – If you prefer this steak recipe can be made in a cast iron skillet after it has marinaded. Heat olive oil over medium-high heat and place steak in the pan. Cook on both sides until your desire temperature has been reached.

We recommend to use a meat thermometer to ensure that you steak is cooked at the right temperature and desired temperature. Then it is ready to dice into cubes to serve in steak bowls with your favorite veggies.
- Rare – 120 – 130 degrees
- Medium-Rare – 130 – 135 degrees
- Medium – 135 – 145 degrees
- Medium-Well – 145 – 155 degrees
- Well-Done – 155 – 165 degrees
