When we go to Texas we always have to stop at In-N-Out Burger Restaurant for their one of kind hamburger. The juicy burger is loaded with all the burger topping and the sauce makes this burger amazing.

As you know, I like to create copycat recipes so that I can make them at home to save time and money. We don’t have an In-N-Out where we live, so my family was glad that I made their favorite burger at home.

The easy sauce and the pickles, lettuce and tomatoes makes this ground beef recipe a crowd favorite. Also try the Copycat In-N-Out Animal Style Burger Recipe or any of our Best Blackstone Burger Recipes.

What is an In and Out Burger?

In-N-Out Burger is a fast food restaurant that started in California. The burgers are made with 100% beef that is free of any fillers and additives. The sauce that is added makes them unique and flavorful.

If you go to a state that has one, it is a must stop.

Why We Love this Copycat Recipe

We love copycat recipes especially ones that we can make on our Blackstone Griddle. We love quickly the burger cooks which saves me time and money. These In-N-Out Burgers are always a family favorite and perfect for your next BBQ.

The only season that is required is some salt and pepper on these burgers. Cooking the burgers on the Blackstone gives it so much flavor. They turn out so juicy and crispy edges, that we prefer these over the restaurants.

How to Make In and Out Burgers on Blackstone Griddle

4 ground beef balls on a white plate

Step 1 – Make Hamburger Balls – Form the ground beef into 4 balls approximately ¼ pound each.

Combining mayo and ketchup together in a bowl

Step 2 – Combine Sauce Ingredients – Mix the sauce ingredients together in a small bowl.

Spreading oil on the griddle with a silver spatula

Step 3 – Prepare the Grill – Preheat the Blackstone grill over medium high heat (approximately 400 degrees F).  Drizzle the avocado oil on the grill.  You can use any oil with a high smoke point for this recipe.  We usually use avocado oil but canola oil, vegetable oil or coconut oil will work great too.

Toasting buns on the griddle

Step 4 – Toast the Buns – Place the buns on the preheated grill for 2 minutes to toast them and then set them aside while you prepare the beef.

Pressing the ground beef patties on the griddle with a Blackstone burger press

Step 5 – Smash Burger Balls – Then place the beef balls on the Blackstone grill. Then top each one with a piece on parchment paper and firmly press down to smash the beef into a thin patty with either a burger press or a large spatula and then discard the parchment paper.

Step 8 – Flip the Burgers – Then scrape under the patty to get under the caramelized parts and flip the patty. Once flipped, do not smash down the patties again.

Step 9 – Continue Cooking – Cook for 1 more minute and place 2 pieces of real American cheese on each of the patties.  Cook for 1 more minute to allow the cheese to melt.

Step 10 – Assemble Burgers – Then it’s time to assemble your burgers. Spread the sauce on bottom bun. Then top the patties with the lettuce, tomatoes, patty and onions. You can even add cheese if you prefer. Serve and Enjoy!

Recipe Tips

  • Loosely Pack Hamburger Balls – When preparing the balls with the beef, do not pack them together. Loosely roll them into balls so that they are easier to smash.
  • Ground Beef Tips – You can use 90/10 or 93/7 for this recipe to lower the fat content in this recipe, but we think that the 80/20 gives the best flavor to this recipe.
  • Cook Multiple Burgers at Once – The Griddle is a large cooking surface which allows you to cook multiple burgers at once. This makes the perfect burger to feed a crowd.
  • Toast Buns – We like to toast the hamburger buns a golden brown. This gives the burger an extra crunch.

Making this Copycat burger is just as easy on your stovetop. If you don’t have a Blackstone or the weather is to cold, cook the burgers inside. We recommend cooking the burgers in a cast iron skillet. The burgers will come out similar to cooking them on the griddle.

What Temperature should my Griddle be for Smash Burgers?

We preheat the Blackstone Griddle for Homemade Smash Burger to medium high heat. The hot griddle should reach a temperature of about 400 degrees.
We like using a temperature gun to ensure our griddle is at the right temperature before placing the patties on the griddle.

How to Store Leftover Burger

These burgers are best served fresh, but you can store the leftover patties in an airtight container for up to 1 week.
