We love smoking our green beans because they taste amazing and topped with simple spices. We smoked our greens beans with hickory wood chips but you can also use pecan wood chips.

Variations Ideas

  • Green Beans – We used fresh in this recipe but feel free to use canned green beans or frozen green beans.
  • Add Bacon – For added flavor cook the greens with chopped bacon. You can use pork bacon or turkey bacon. Ham hock would also be a delicious addition.
  • Vegetables – Since we cook the green beans in a disposable pan, you can easily add in other vegetables. Add in onion, red potatoes or pour in chicken broth.
  • Seasoning – You can easily change the seasoning to what you prefer. We have even added in BBQ sauces for added flavor. We have even added smoked garlic to the green beans.

Step by Step Instructions

  • Step 1 – Preheat the smoker to 275 degrees Fahrenheit.

Step 2 – Place the prepared green beans in a large mixing bowl.  Pour the melted butter on top and season with the salt, pepper and garlic powder.

Step 3 – Toss the green beans to coat them in the butter and seasoning mixture.

Step 4 – Spread the green beans into a large try or baking sheet into a single layer. Place the tray or baking sheet in the smoker and smoke for 2-3 hours, flipping them every 30 minutes, until they are tender.

Step 5 –   Remove from the smoker, let the green beans cool slightly and then they are ready to serve and enjoy! 

Recipe Tips

  • Trim and Wash Green Beans – Before smoking green beans we recommend trimming the greens to cut off the bad ends.
  • Combining Ingredients – Combine ingredients with seasoning and butter until fully covered.
  • Smoking Green Beans – We recommend stirring the green beans throughout the smoking process. This ensures that they all sides cook evenly.

Refrigerate the leftovers in an airtight container for up to 5 days. 

Can I Make without a Smoker?

This easy smoked green bean recipe can easily be cooked in a preheated oven at 350 degrees. Cook for about 20 minutes. You may need to stir with tongs halfway through to make sure covered in seasoning.

How to Reheat:

We recommend reheating in the microwave for about 30 seconds until reheated.
