Eggs in a basket is a simple breakfast recipe that is called many different names. It is an egg that is cooked inside of a hole in the toast. The egg is cooked in the bread until it is perfectly over easy or over medium for a delicious breakfast idea.

What is the Best Bread for Eggs in a Hole?

This egg in a hole recipe can be made with any type of bread that you prefer. I like a thicker bread such as Texas Toast but we just recommend that is a larger slice.

Sourdough bread would also be a great option.

Ingredients needed - bread, eggs, butter, salt and pepper

Ingredients: 

  • Bread 
  • Large Eggs 
  • Butter (divided)
  • Salt 
  • Pepper 

How to Make Eggs in a Basket on Blackstone Griddle: 

  • Step 1 – Preheat a Blackstone Grill over medium heat (approximately 350 degrees Fahrenheit). 
  • Step 2 – Use a round cookie cutter or biscuit cutter to cut a hole out of the center of each slice of bread.

  • Step 3 – Butter both sides of the bread with 1 tablespoon of the bread (including the cut out).  
  • Step 4 – Spread the remaining butter out onto the Blackstone Grill with a spatula. 
  • Step 5 – Place the bread and the cut out onto the grill.  Cook for 1-2 minutes until the toast is lightly golden brown.  
  • Step 6 – Then flip the piece of toasted bread and cut outs.  
  • Step 7 – Crack the egg and pour it into the hole in the piece of bread.  Follow the same process with the remaining egg and bread.

  • Step 8 – Season the fried eggs with salt and pepper. 
  • Step 9 – Close the lid on the grill and cook for 1 minute until the egg whites are set.  
  • Step 10 – Remove the bread from the grill and Blackstone Griddle Eggs is ready to serve and enjoy!

Can you Make this with Scrambled Eggs?

Yes, you make this with scrambled eggs and it is still delicious. Prepare your eggs, and pour the egg in the middle of the hole. Then take a small spatula and carefully scramble the eggs in the hole.

  • 2 slices Bread
  • 2 Large Eggs
  • 2 Tablespoons Butter divided
  • 1/2 teaspoon Salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon Pepper

Instructions

  • Preheat a Blackstone Grill over medium high heat (approximately 350 degrees Fahrenheit).
  • Use a round cookie cutter to cut the center out of each slice of bread.
  • Butter both sides of the bread with 1 tablespoon of the bread (including the cut out).
  • Spread the remaining butter out onto the Blackstone Grill with a spatula.
  • Place the bread and the cut out onto the grill.  Cook for 1-2 minutes until the toast is lightly golden brown.
  • Then flip the bread and cut outs.
  • Break an egg and pour it into the hole in the piece of bread.  Follow the same process with the remaining egg and bread.
  • Season the eggs with salt and pepper.
  • Close the lid on the grill and cook for 1 minute until the egg whites are set.
  • Remove the bread from the grill and then it’s ready to serve and enjoy!

Recipe Notes
