How to Cook Tuna Steak on Blackstone
- Step 1 – Preheat the Blackstone grill to as hot as it will get (approximately 500-700 degrees F).
- Step 2 – Pat the tuna steaks dry. Rub the ½ the oil onto all sides of the tuna steaks.
- Step 3 – Mix together the salt and pepper and pour it on a plate. Press both sides of the tuna steaks into the mixture to coat it with the seasoning mixture.
- Step 4 – Drizzle the remaining oil onto the Blackstone Grill and use a spatula to spread it out.
- Step 5 – Place the tuna steaks on the Blackstone Grill over the oil. Cook until well-seared and the tuna starts to release itself from the grill (approximately 1-2 minutes).
- Step 6 – Flip the tuna and cook the other side for 1-2 minutes as well until browned.
- Step 7 – You can also sear the short sides of the tuna by using tongs to turn the tuna steaks on their sides and grilling for a few minutes. If you measure the internal temperature of the tuna steaks they should be approximately 115-125 degrees F. The middle of the tuna should still be pink.
- Step 8 – Remove the tuna from the Blackstone grill, slice the tuna against the grain and serve immediately.

- Cooking Tuna Steaks – We love cooking these tuna steaks to medium-rare. If you prefer them slightly more cooked, move the steaks over to indirect heat on the grill (turn off half of the grill) until it’s cooked to the temperature you prefer.
- Seasoning – Season the tuna steaks with salt and pepper but you can easily use other types of seasoning.
- Heat Griddle – Make sure the griddle is hot and oil before placing the tuna steaks on the griddle.
How to Cook on a Skillet
If you prefer, you can cook the Tuna Steak on a skillet indoors. We recommend cooking the tuna steak in a cast iron skillet as the results will be similar cooking on the griddle.
- Heat oil in a Cast Iron Skillet. Make sure the skillet is very hot before adding the fish.
- Place the fish in the heated skillet and sear for about 1 to 2 minutes on each side. Leave on longer depending on how thick your tuna is.
- Remove the tuna from the skillet and place on the cutting board. Slice the tuna steak and serve.
How to Know when Tuna Steaks are Cooked
It only takes a few minutes to cook tuna on the griddle. The center of the tuna steaks will still be pink. You can use a meat thermometer to check the temperature of the tuna.
The temperature will read about 115 to 125 degrees.
