  • Pieces of Bread – Feel free to change the bread to what you prefer. Feel free to use Italian bread or an type of loaf bread.
  • Cooking Indoors – You can easily make this recipe with a panini press or an indoor griddle. I have even made in a cast iron skillet on the stove top.

Slice pork tenderloin wrapped in plastic wrap on a cutting board

Step 1 – Prepare Pork Tenderloin – Cut the pork tenderloin in half lengthwise.  Place it in between plastic wrap and use a meat mallet to gently pound the pork. Pound the pork until it’s approximately ½ inch thick.

  • Step 6 – Reduce Heat – Reduce the heat to low on the grill.
  • Step 7 – Cut Bread – Cut the bread in half lengthwise.  Spread the mustard on the bottom half of each of the bread.

Make the Cuban Sandwich

  • Step 1 – Layer Sandwich – Layer the ham, Swiss cheese, pickles and pork onto each roll.  Alternate between the meat and cheese as the cheese helps keep the sandwich tomorrow.  Then top each sandwich with the top half of the rolls.

  • Step 9 – Top Butter – Rub the melted butter on the outside of the sandwiches or the top bun.
  • Step 10 – Add Sandwich to grill – Place the sandwiches on the grill.  Place a piece of aluminum foil on top. Then place a heavy item on top of the foil to press the sandwiches down onto the grill.  I used a large cast iron skillet and it worked great.
  • Step 11 – Grill Sandwich – Grill for 5-6 minutes.  Flip the sandwiches, weigh them back down and grill the opposite side for 5-6 more minutes until browned and the cheese is melted.

  • Step 12 – Serve and enjoy – Remove the sandwiches from the grill and then they are ready to serve and enjoy.

Recipe Tips

  • Roast Pork – After marinating the pork tenderloin, grill the pork tenderloin over medium-high heat. Make sure to oil the grill grates to prevent the pork from sticking. We like to slice the pork tenderloin before grilling.
  • Grill Sandwich – Grill the sandwich after adding the layers of ham, cheese and the seasoning. It takes about 5 minutes and we used a cast iron skillet to press the sandwich down.
