- Brown Sugar – Use light brown sugar or dark brown sugar
- Kosher Salt – Feel free to also use pink salt or regular salt
- Smoked Paprika – You can also use regular paprika
- Black Pepper – For extra spicy flavors, add in ½ tsp of chili powder, chipotle chili pepper, or cayenne pepper
- Garlic Powder – You can substitute with granulated garlic

How to Make Pulled Pork Rub

Step 1 – Place all the seasoning in a large bowl.

Step 2 – Mix all the ingredients together in the bowl.
- Step 3 – Use immediately or store in an airtight container until ready to use. I prefer to store in a mason jar with a lid and store in a cool, dark place.
Recipe Tips
- Adding Spices to Meat – I use approximately ¼ cup of this dry rub on an 8-10 pound pork roast, making sure to rub it on both sides of the pork.
- Combining Spices – Use a fork to break up any clumps of the seasoning to evenly mix it together.
- Prepare Meat – Before adding the spice blend to the pork, we recommend to blot the meat with paper towels to remove any excess moisture.
What is the Best Cut of Meat for Pulled Pork?
You can use this dry rub to make pulled pork recipes with many cuts of meat. We normally use pork shoulder or pork butt but you can also use it on pork ribs, pork chops or pork tenderloin.
