  • Oil
  • Salt
  • Pepper
  • Ripe Fresh Avocados (sliced)
  • Lettuce Leaves
  • Onion (sliced)
  • Tomatoes (sliced)
  • Hamburger Buns

How to Grill an Avocado Burger:

  • Step 1 – Divide the ground beef into 6 even balls (approximately ⅓ lb each). Then – form the balls into patties that are approximately 4 inches wide and 1 inch thick.
  • Step 2 – Place the patties in the refrigerator (covered in plastic wrap) while you preheat the grill.
  • Step 3 – Preheat the Grill over medium high heat (approximately 450-500 degrees F). Rub oil on the grill grates to prevent the patties from sticking to the grill.
  • Step 4 – Place the beef burgers on the grill over direct heat.  Cook for 4-8 minutes (flipping the patties halfway through the cook time) depending on how you like your burger cooked (see notes).
  • Step 5 – Use an instant-read meat thermometer to make sure that the burgers are cooked to your preference.
  • Step 6 – Place the buns on the grill and cook for 1 minute until they are browned slightly.  Watch them closely so that they do not burn.
  • Step 7 – Add a lettuce leaf and onions to the bottom bun of each bun.
  • Step 8 – Remove the beef from the grill and add them to each  of the hamburger buns on top of the lettuce.
  • Step 9 – Then assemble the burgers with the tomatoes and avocado slices.  Serve warm and enjoy!

How Long to Grill a Burger:

When you are ready to grill a burger, preheat the grill and oil the grates. Use any oil with a high smoke point. Vegetable oil, canola oil, coconut oil or avocado oil will all work great in this recipe.

Cooking time will vary but it will take about 15 to 20 minutes turning the burgers on the grill. We like to use an meat thermometer to cook the burger to how you liked them cooked.

Here are the internal temperatures needed based on how you like your burgers prepared.

  • Rare Burgers – 125 degrees F
  • Medium-Rare Burgers – 135 degrees F
  • Medium Burgers – 145 degrees F
  • Well-Done Burgers – 160 degrees F

Should you Grill the Avocado?

We did not grill the avocado, but you can. Grilled avocados are amazing, and really amp up the flavor of the burger. Avocados are nicely grilled and we love the grilled marks.

For the final minutes of grilling the burgers, you can place the avocados on the grill or you can place them in the grill pan.

How to Cook on the Stovetop:

If you are prefer you can still cook this delicious avocado burger on the stove top. Prepare the hamburger meat as indicated in the recipe. We recommend cooking the burger in a cast iron skillet, but any skillet will work.

Cook the burger once the skillet has heated with oil. The outer edge of the burger will by crispy while still staying juicy on the inside.

Top with avocado and serve with your favorite sides.

What to Serve with Burgers:

There are many different sides that you can serve with this delicious Avocado Burger.

  • Grilled French FriesNo fancy tool is needed for these hand-cut French Fries. You simply cut them in ¼ inch strips and toss them in some seasoning and grill them in an iron skillet.
  • Grilled Vegetables These grilled vegetables in foil make the perfect side for this avocado burger. It is delicious and easy to make.
  • Grilled Mushrooms Make a side of grilled vegetables for an amazing side. You can top the burger with mushrooms or serve as a side.
