Why You’ll Love This Burger!

Carrie, the owner, with long dark hair, wearing earrings and a purple top, smiles at the camera in front of a textured, beige background.

I make this burger all the time during the summer because it feels a little more special than a basic cheeseburger, but it’s just as easy to throw together.

The avocado adds so much flavor and texture without needing extra sauces or complicated steps—and my family always requests it when we’re grilling.

  • Juicy and satisfying – The creamy avocado keeps every bite rich and delicious
  • Easy to customize – Works with beef, turkey, or your favorite toppings
  • Great for grilling season – Perfect for cookouts, weekends, or quick weeknight dinners
  • No fancy ingredients needed – Made with simple, affordable staples
  • Feels fresh but still comforting – A lighter twist on a classic burger everyone loves

It’s the perfect upgrade when you want comfort food with a fresh twist—and honestly, it’s the burger I crave all summer long! If you have a Blackstone, you can even make Blackstone Avocado Burger Recipe.

How to Make Avocado Burger

Ground Beef balls on a platter.

Step 1 – Divide the ground beef into 6 even balls (approximately ⅓ lb each). Then form the balls into patties that are approximately 4 inches wide and 1 inch thick.  Place the patties in the refrigerator (covered in plastic wrap) while you preheat the grill.

Ground beef patties on the grill.

Step 2 – Rub oil on the grill grates to prevent the patties from sticking to the grill. Place the patties on the grill over direct heat.  Cook for 4-8 minutes (flipping the patties halfway through the cook time) depending on how you like your burger cooked (see notes).

Toasted hamburger buns on the grill.

Step 3 – Place the buns on the grill and cook for 1 minute until they are browned slightly.  Watch them closely so that they do not burn.

Step 4 – Add a lettuce leaf and onions to the bottom bun of each bun. Remove the beef from the grill and add them to each  of the hamburger buns on top of the lettuce. Then top each patty with the tomatoes and avocado slices.  Serve warm and enjoy!

Tips for Success

  • Don’t overwork the meat – Keeps burgers tender
  • Make a slight indent in the center – Helps burgers cook evenly
  • Use ripe (not mushy) avocados – Best texture and flavor
  • Toast the buns – Adds structure and prevents soggy burgers
  • Season just before grilling – Helps keep burgers juicy
