Why We Love This Recipe
I am always looking for light side dishes to serve while we are hanging by the pool. This grilled watermelon is always a crowd favorite because of the natural sweetness and savory flavor and the beautiful grill marks.
The honey lime glaze and the feta cheese toppings makes the watermelon even better. But we have even enjoyed the grilled watermelon straight from the grill with our grilled chicken.

Variations Ideas
- Watermelon – Use any type of melon to make this recipe. We have even used a mini watermelon.
- Toppings – Feel free to change the toppings when serving this grilled watermelon. Drizzle with balsamic vinegar, fresh arugula, fresh basil and fresh mint leaves.
How to Make Grilled Watermelon
- Step 1 – Preheat a grill to high heat (approximately 450-500 degrees – Fahrenheit).
Step 2 – In a small bowl, whisk together the lime juice, lime zest, honey and salt. Set aside.
Step 3 – Cut the sweet watermelon into 2 halves. Then cut each half into quarters and cut the watermelon into triangle pieces that are approximately 1-inch thick with the rind on the watermelon still attached.
Step 4 – Brush the lime mixture onto both sides of the watermelon triangles and place them directly on the grill on the grill grates. Cook for 2-3 minutes per side until you see grill marks form on the watermelon. Remove from the grill.
Step 5 – Remove the watermelon from the grill and then serve topped with the fresh cilantro, lime juice and feta cheese. Enjoy!
Recipe Tips
- Picking a Watermelon – Choose a watermelon that is heavy and uniform in size. We also like to choose one that has a large yellow as that usually means it has been on the vine longer.
- Cooking Time – Cooking time will vary but watermelon does cook quickly. For best results, do not overcook the watermelon.
Serving Suggestions
This is best served immediately off the grill while warm. This recipe makes approximately 20 watermelon wedges and will serve roughly 6 people for a delicious appetizer or dessert.
The watermelon slices would be delicious served as a grilled watermelon salad or with a scoop of ice cream. We have even made with our Grilled Teriyaki Steak
