When grilling filet mignon it is important to stay close by the grill. Heat the grill to a hot temperature to give the steaks a nice sear.
After seasoning the steak, place the steak on the grill and grill for about 5 minutes per side. Reduce the temperature on the grill until the desired temperature.
How to Know when Filet Mignon is done
The best way to test for doneness is by inserting an instant read thermometer into the thickest part of the steak. Do this through the side, not the top of the steak.
Steak Doneness:
- Rare – 120F, cool to warm red center
- Medium Rare – 130F, Warm red center
- Cook Medium – 140F, Hot pink center
- Medium Well – 150F, Mostly brown center
- Well Done – 160F, full brown in color
From start to finish, it will take about 30 minutes to prepare and grill your Filet Mignon. We recommend to allow steaks to rest about 10 minutes before serving.
This locks in the juice and keeps the steak moist.
