Sauteed mushrooms and onions on a black plate

Blackstone Sauteed Mushrooms and Onions Recipe:

Onions and Mushrooms Sauteed on your Blackstone Griddle make for an easy side dish or to top on your favorite cut of meat. They add texture and flavor to your steak or chicken and easy to make.

This combination is a family favorite so we regularly make them to add to many different things. The season is simple and cooking on the large flat top allows you to cook other things.

These steps will show you the right way to cut the vegetables and how to properly sauté so you don’t overcook them. Easy to add the onions and mushrooms to the griddle and sauté in the butter. Perfect side dish in about 15 minutes.

Ingredients needed - mushrooms, onion, avocado oil, butter, salt and pepper

Ingredients:

  • Fresh Mushrooms
  • White Onion
  • Avocado Oil
  • Butter
  • Salt
  • Pepper

How to Sauté Mushrooms and Onions on Blackstone Griddle:

  • Prepare Mushrooms and Onions – Thoroughly clean the mushrooms and slice them into thick slices (approximately 1/2-⅜ inch thick). Cut the onion into 3/8-½ inch thick half moon slices.
  • Add vegetables to griddle – Preheat the Blackstone grill over medium high heat (approximately 450 degrees F). Then spread the avocado oil (or vegetable oil) and the butter onto the grill. Once the butter is melted, add the mushrooms and add sliced onions to the grill.

How to Clean and Slice Mushrooms:

To prepare your mushrooms, make sure that you do not soak them in water. You want to gently wipe them down to clean off any dirt. If mushrooms retain to much water the can become mushy.

  • Slicing Whole Mushrooms – We recommend before slicing large mushrooms to wipe them down with a damp paper towel. You can wash them with water, but make sure you dry them before slicing.
  • Sliced Mushrooms – If you are cooking with sliced mushrooms, you can rinse them a colander but do not let them soak. Let the mushrooms dry on a paper towel.

How to Sauté Mushrooms and Onions on Stove Top:

If you don’t have a Blackstone Griddle you can still sauteed the Mushrooms and Onions. The ingredients will stay the same but you can use a large skillet, an electric skillet, or a cast iron skillet to get the same results.

Variations:

  • Change the Seasoning – There are many different seasoning that are amazing on this mushrooms and onions mixture. Garlic Powder or Season Salt is one of my favorites. White wine is also a great addition to season the vegetables with.
  • Use Different Types of Mushrooms – We usually use the white button mushrooms, but you can use portobello mushrooms, cremini mushrooms, or shiitake mushrooms.
  • Onions – White onions are the best option but you can also use yellow onion.
  • Add Vegetables – Add in other vegetables to enhance the flavor. We love to add in bell peppers or zucchini.
  • Worcestershire Sauce – Add worcestershire sauce to the mixture and gives it that warm flavor.

Sauteed Mushrooms and Onions Tips:

  • Keto Friendly – Onions are low in carbs and are Keto Friendly. Perfect to any of your keto meals and since they are grilled in butter fits into a keto diet meal plan.
  • Butter – When you put butter on the griddle, don’t let the melted butter burn. If you do, you need to start over.
  • Medium High Heat – Cook Mushrooms and Onions over medium high heat. They release a lot of moisture so need to be quickly cooked on the griddle.
