Best Bread for Fried Egg Sandwich

We love making this Fried Egg Sandwich with sourdough bread, but feel free to use different types of bread. We recommend choosing a thicker bread for best results on cooking on the griddle.

We love cooking on the griddle because of the large surface. I can easily cook every ones sandwich easily over medium heat. Make this egg sandwich however you prefer. It is a crowd pleasing breakfast idea.

Ingredients

Substitutions and Additions

  • Butter – You can use mayonnaise instead of butter in this recipe if you prefer. 
  • Slice of Cheese – These sandwiches are great with any of your favorite types of cheese. We love using pepper jack, colby jack, or cheddar cheese.
  • Eggs – You can make this sandwich with types of eggs. Feel free to make a sunny side egg, Egg Patties or scrambled eggs. You can also make it with egg whites.
  • Change Meat – Instead of using bacon, you can use a sausage patty, ham, chicken, or steak. We have even added Canadian bacon and breakfast sausage.
  • Vegetables – Layer the sandwich with spinach, onions, or avocado.
  • Cast Iron BiscuitsMake this sandwich with biscuits.

How to Make Fried Egg Sandwich on a Blackstone Griddle:

  • Step 1 – Heat Griddle – Preheat the Blackstone Grill over medium high heat (approximately 400 degrees Fahrenheit).
  • Step 2 – Cook Bacon – Place bacon slices on the Blackstone Grill on one side on the griddle.  Cook the bacon until the bacon is crispy.  Move the bacon from the grill to a plate lined with a paper towel to soak up the excess grease.

  • Step 3 – Spread Butter – Spread the butter (do not use all the butter) on the outside of each slice of bread.

  • Step 4 – Melt Butter – Melt the remaining butter onto the Blackstone Grill. 
  • Step 5 – Cook Eggs – Crack the eggs on one side of the Blackstone grill and season them with salt and pepper.  Cook for 2-3 minutes until the bottom of the eggs are set. Then flip and cook for 1 more minute.

  • Step 6 – Top with Cheese – Place the cheddar cheese on top of the eggs and allow it to melt.

  • Step 7 – Toast Bread – Then place 2 slices of the bread butter side down onto the Blackstone grill.  Top each piece of bread with an American cheese slice.

  • Step 8 – Layer on Bread – Layer the eggs on top of the bread (2 eggs per bread). Then top with the cooked bacon (2 slices per bread) and the remaining slices of bread (butter side out).

  • Step 9 – Cook Sandwich – Cook both of the sandwiches over medium high heat until golden brown (4-5 minutes).  Flip the sandwiches and cook the other side for 4-5 more minutes until golden brown.

  • Step 10 – Serve – Remove the skillet, cut in half and enjoy! 

Recipe Tips

  • Heat Griddle – Preheat griddle to medium heat before cooking the bacon. Griddle cooking is the perfect to way to make these egg and cheese sandwiches. Make sure to oil the griddle with olive oil or butter.
  • Cook Bacon – After cooking the bacon, place the bacon on a plate lined with paper towel. This helps to remove excessive grease.
  • Cooking Ingredients – This entire cheese sandwich can be made on the griddle. This gives the sandwich so much flavor.
  • Frying Pan – If you do not have a Blackstone Griddle, you can cook the sandwich on a cast iron skillet.

How to Store Leftovers
