We love using our Blackstone to make our favorite Blackstone Beef Stir Fry Recipe and Blackstone Chicken Wings. Everything always cooks with the best flavor and amazing texture. Cooking catfish fillets on the Blackstone cooks with the best golden brown color with simple spices and one of our favorite Blackstone Griddle Recipes.

The combination of the seasoning gives the catfish a savory flavor and the Blackstone cooks it with a flaky center and perfectly crisp texture.

Why This Recipe Works

Blackstone Catfish Fillets is a delicious, healthy, low carb and keto friendly dish that we make often during the summer months. It cooks with ease on the Blackstone but it is also delicious cooked on the gas grill, stovetop in a cast iron skillet or a charcoal grill. We love cooking outside because it keeps the smoking, seafood flavor outdoors.

We even like to change the seasoning to change the taste of this fish recipe. We have even made Blackstone Blackened catfish with our homemade blackened seasoning for a delicious variation.

Ingredients

Ingredients - Catfish Fillets, vegetable oil, butter, lemon, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, salt, pepper, thyme
  • Catfish Fillets – We recommend using fresh, quality catfish. Feel free to substitute the catfish with redfish, salmon, cod or tilapia
  • Vegetable Oil – You can also use Olive Oil or Avocado Oil which is my preferred oil for griddle cooking
  • Butter – We like using unsalted butter with the oil for a creamy flavor to the flavor of the fish
  • Lemon Wedges – Fresh Lemon Juice gives the catfish the best flavor
  • Garlic Powder – If you are out, see Garlic Powder Substitutes
  • Paprika – We have even used smoked paprika to add a smoky flavor to the blend of spices.

Step 5 – Cook for 4-5 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and the fish flakes easily with a fork and seared to perfection. Cut the lemon in half. Squeeze one half over the fish just before removing it from the griddle and slice the other half into wedges for serving. Serve immediately while warm and enjoy!

Recipe Tips

  • Cooking Catfish – Don’t move the fish around once placed on the griddle. Once you flip the catfish and you have any remaining butter, you can melt on top of the catfish.
  • Preparing Catfish – Before placing the catfish on the griddle, pat dry the catfish with paper towels. Lightly oil the catfish and coat both side with the prepared seasoning. This will give the catfish the best crust and flavor.
  • Choosing Catfish – For the best results and flavor make sure to choose fresh, high-quality catfish that is firm without a strong fishy smell.

How to Know When Catfish is Done Cooking

You will know that the fish is done when it flakes easily and is opaque throughout. Make sure to cook the catfish on each side until the catfish is fully cooked.

The catfish will be golden brown and ready to serve as soon as it is done cooking. Make sure to not overcook as catfish can become dry very quickly. Stay close to the Blackstone to prevent overcooking.

How to Cook Catfish on Stovetop

If you prefer, you can easily cook this catfish on the stovetop. We recommend cooking it in a Large Cast-Iron Skillet for the best flavor.

  • Preheat the cast iron skillet over medium-high heat with canola oil and butter.
  • Once the butter has melted and the skillet is hot, place the fresh catfish fillets in the hot skillet.
  • Cook the catfish for about 3-4 minutes on each side or until the catfish is golden brown and flakes easily with a fork.
  • The catfish is ready to serve with your favorite side dish recipes.
