Why You’ll Love This Recipe!

We make pizza on our Blackstone almost every week because it’s:
- Cheaper than takeout
- Quick and easy
- Perfect for customizing with what we already have
The crust turns out crispy on the outside and soft inside, while the cheese gets perfectly melted and gooey.
Ingredients

- All Purpose Flour – This is the base of the dough and gives it a soft, chewy texture with a slightly crisp edge on the Blackstone. You can substitute with bread flour if you want a chewier crust, but all-purpose keeps it simple and budget-friendly.
- Instant Yeast – Yeast helps the dough rise and creates that light, airy texture. Make sure it’s fresh so the dough doubles properly. You can also use instant yeast and mix it directly with the dry ingredients.
- Sugar – Sugar feeds the yeast and helps the dough rise faster while adding a slight balance to the flavor. Honey can be used as a substitute if needed.
- Salt – Salt enhances the overall flavor of the dough. It may seem small, but it makes a big difference in how the crust tastes.
- Garlic Powder – This adds a simple, savory flavor to the crust. It’s optional, but a great way to boost flavor without extra cost.
- Dried Basil Leaves – Basil adds a light Italian-style flavor to the dough. You can substitute with Italian seasoning or oregano, or leave it out for a more neutral crust.
- Olive Oil – Olive oil helps create a soft, tender dough and adds a subtle richness. You can swap it with vegetable oil or avocado oil, especially for high-heat cooking on the Blackstone.
- Warm Water – Warm water activates the yeast and brings the dough together. It should be warm to the touch, not hot, since too much heat can kill the yeast and prevent rising.

How to Make Homemade Pizza Dough

Step 1 – Mix Dry Ingredients – In a large mixing bowl, stir together 1 cup of the flour, yeast, sugar, salt, garlic powder and basil leaves with a wooden spoon.

Step 2 – Mix in oil and water – Add in the olive oil and the warm water. Stir until well combined.

Step 3 – Form the dough into a ball – Then slowly add in the remaining flour, stirring until the dough is formed into a ball and begins to pull away from the sides of the bowl. The ball will be sticky but still easily manageable with your hands.

Step 4 – Place dough into oil bowl – Drizzle some olive oil in a separate bowl. Move the pizza dough into this bowl and gently roll the pizza dough around the edges of the bowl until it’s coated in the oil.

Step 5 – Cover Bowl – Then cover the bowl with plastic wrap or towel and keep it in a warm place. Allow the dough to rise for 30 minutes or until the dough has doubled in size.

Step 6 – Heat Griddle – Preheat the Blackstone grill over medium high heat. Once the dough has risen, move the dough to a lightly floured surface and knead the bread a few times until it’s smooth. Then roll the dough into a 12 inch circle with a rolling pin.
Step 7 – Poke Holes – Use a fork to poke holes all over the center of the pizza dough to keep it from bubbling in the oven.
How to Cook Pizza Dough on Blackstone Griddle

Step 1 – Oil the Griddle – Spread the avocado oil out onto the Blackstone grill. Place the pizza dough directly on the griddle surface. Cook for 3-5 minutes until browned.

Step 3 – Top the dough with Toppings – Then top the pizza sauce with your preferred sauce, Italian Seasoning and favorite toppings. Make sure to leave approximately 1 inch of the crust around the outside of the pizza.

Step 4 – Cook Pizza – Cover the Blackstone Grill with dome and cook for 5-7 minutes until the dough is golden brown and the cheese is melted on the pizza.
Step 5 – Serve and Enjoy – Remove the pizza from the grill. Slice and serve the pizza. Enjoy!
