What are Totchos?

Totchos are tator tot nachos that are cooked on a Blackstone Griddle. Instead of making nachos with tortilla chips you make it with tator tots. Layers of cheese, ground beef and beans are topped on heated tator tots in a cast iron skillet.

Ingredients

Ingredients needed - oil, tator tots, taco seasoning, ground beef, black beans, cheese, corn, tomato

How to Make Totchos on Blackstone

  • Step 1 – Heat Griddle – Preheat the Blackstone Grill over medium high heat (approximately 400 degrees Fahrenheit).
  • Step 2 – Top with Oil – Spread the oil out onto the grill with a spatula.

Step 3 – Add Tator Tots – Spread the tator tots onto half of the Blackstone grill into a single layer. Season the tator tots with half of the taco seasoning and gently toss them to coat them in the seasoning.

Step 4 – Cover and cook for 15-18 minutes (turning every few minutes) until crispy and cooked through.  Place the ground beef on the Blackstone next to the tator tots. Season and brown the ground beef.

Step 6 – Top with Browned Beef – Then pour the browned beef on top of the tator tots.

  • Step 7 – Add toppings – Sprinkle the black beans, corn and half of the shredded cheese on top.
  • Step 8 – Cook on Griddle – Place the pan on the blackstone grill, cover and let sit for 5-10 minutes until the cheese is melted.
  • Step 9 – Top with Cheese – Remove from the grill, top with the remaining shredded cheese, bacon, tomatoes and any other toppings you prefer.
  • Step 10 – Serve – Serve immediately while warm and enjoy.

Recipe Tips

  • Oil the griddle – Use an oil with a high smoke point on the Blackstone grill. Vegetable Oil, Canola Oil, Peanut Oil and Avocado oil are all great options.
  • Reheating – Reheat by baking them in the oven at 350 degrees Fahrenheit until heated through or placing them back on the Blackstone grill until warmed though.  You can also reheat in the air fryer.
  • Taco Seasoning – We like to make homemade taco seasoning to have on hand. But you can also use the store bought taco seasoning packet.
  • Cheese – We recommend shredded your own cheese. Pre-shredded cheese has added ingredients, that are not necessary for this recipe. Feel free to use different cheese, cheddar cheese or pepper jack cheese would be delicious.
