Expert Tips

  • Prepare Blackstone – Before placing the vegetables and meats on the griddle, we recommend preheating and adding the oil. This allows the meats and vegetables to cook with the best texture and flavor.
  • Chopping Vegetables – We recommend using a vegetable chopper so the veggies are chopped about the same size. This helps to cook them evenly.
  • Other Cooking Methods – We love making this Italian Sub on the griddle because of the flavor. But if you do not have a griddle to cook outside, you can place the meats and veggies on a baking sheet and bake in the oven. Feel free to also heat on the stovetop in a cast iron skillet.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Best Meat for Italian Subs?

Italian Subs are made with rich meats which include slice pepperoni, genoa salami, and slice ham. We recommend getting the meats thinly sliced at the deli so the meat is not chewy.

What is the Best Type of Bread to Make Italian Subs?

When making any type of sandwiches the bread is just as important as the sandwich filling. You want the bread to have the right ratio to the meats. We like using regular hoagie rolls or a sourdough bread from our local bakery to make these Italian Sandwiches.

How to Store Leftover Italian Sandwiches

These sandwiches are best served fresh. If you do have any leftovers, store the meats separately in the fridge and do not assemble the sandwiches until ready to enjoy!

How to Reheat Italian Sandwiches

When you are ready to enjoy your leftovers again from the refrigerator, reheat the deli meat in a skillet over medium heat. Then place your toppings on the hoagie rolls and serve with your favorite side dishes.
